Our Mission Statement
Our mission is to build the philanthropic capital to enhance and preserve the quality of life in Culpeper, Fauquier, Madison, and Rappahannock Counties and strengthen the region's nonprofit organizations.
History of NPCF
The Northern Piedmont Community Foundation was founded in December 2000 by a group of nine concerned citizens from Virginia's Piedmont region. The group began by exploring, researching, and initiating a community foundation to meet the charitable needs of this area.
NPCF is dedicated to building a community of givers who provide a permanent source of money available for investments in nonprofit organizations throughout the region. In addition, NPCF will fund projects that are innovative and meet the changing needs of the community.
History of Community Foundations
The first community foundation was formed in 1914 by Frederick Goff, President of the Cleveland Trust Company. Mr. Goff felt that there needed to be a way for individuals of all means to leave philanthropic bequests to benefit their community without having to create a private foundation. His concept was simple.
People would donate funds to meet local needs and they would be administered and invested by local professionals. Today, there are over 650 community foundations in the United States with assets totaling $29.7 billion.
