Youth in Philanthropy 2025 Applications Open

Northern Piedmont Community Foundation’s Youth in Philanthropy Program Prepares Future Leaders Through Real-World Experience

The Northern Piedmont Community Foundation (NPCF) is excited to announce the return of its Youth in Philanthropy (YIP) program, launching September 27th. This unique initiative empowers high school students to become the next generation of community leaders by offering hands-on experience in the philanthropic sector.

Through YIP, students will gain a comprehensive understanding of how philanthropy works—from reviewing grant applications to conducting nonprofit research and ultimately awarding funds to a local organization. Along the way, participants will develop leadership skills, apply critical thinking, and collaborate with peers as they learn how to responsibly steward resources for the greater good.

A Foundation of Experience, A Future of Impact

Now in its latest season, YIP builds on the strong foundation of previous years. Participants will be mentored by NPCF staff and board members, as well as leaders from area nonprofits, offering students an inside view of local philanthropy in action.

New this year: students will choose a project focus from several community sectors, including environmental initiatives, public health, youth sports, civic engagement, housing, and veterans' support—allowing them to pursue their personal passions while making a tangible impact.

How to Get Involved

Youth in Philanthropy is open to all high school students, with particular benefit for juniors and seniors. Students from public, private, and homeschool backgrounds are encouraged to apply. The program kicks off with an in-person session on Saturday, September 27, and continues with weekly evening meetings on Wednesdays throughout October and November.
